Emesis Therapy. Vaman is one of the five therapies of panchakarma in Ayurveda. Vaman means therapeutic vomiting which is a medicated emesis. This treatment is done for the aggravated kapha dosha, which dislodges the toxins mainly from the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. This therapy is also done for preventive & curative purposes. Ayurveda believes that different seasons have a great influence in the aggravation of doshas, ex: Kapha in hemant (spring season), pitta in Sharada(winter)season and vaata in greeshma(summers) season. Hence one can adopt Vaman therapy in Spring i.e hemant season as a preventive therapy in order to prevent disorders related to kapha.
Virechana therapy is a type of Panchakarma treatment. Here, person is made to undergo controlled purgation for a specific amount of time. It is designed to flush out body toxins. Liver detox, colon detox etc. procedures that are quite famous now-a-days are derivatives of Virechana therapy.The Virachana therapy is medicated purification therapy, cleansing the body from excess pitta accumulation, purifying blood and clearing toxins. The therapy primarily concentrates on the toxins accumulated in the liver and gall bladder, thus cleansing the gastro-intestinal tract completely.
Nasya therapy is a process wherein the ayurvedic oil is administered through the nostrils. This therapy is highly effective in curing a number of diseases pertaining to the head,it cleanses and opens the channels of the head, thereby improving the process of oxygenation (prana), which has a direct influence on the functioning of brain. Nasya karma ensures the proper and healthy growth of hair.The therapy enhances the activity of sense organs and protects the person from diseases pertaining to head (urdhwanga).
Ayurvedic basti involves the introduction into the rectum of herbal substances like oil and decoction etc in a liquid medium. Basti, is the most effective treatment of vaata disorders, although many enemas over a prescribed period of time are usually required. This is one of the five pradhana karma of panchakarma.
Raktamokshana therapy is the blood cleansing and purification therapy. It is a therapeutic cleaning process given by Ayurveda. It is one of the essential parts of the Panchkarma healing treatments. It is the prime process of blood detoxification. It is derived from the two words, "Rakt", which means blood and "Mokshana", which means leave. Thus, Rakt mokshana means to let the blood out. The blood is expelled out from the body to reduce the quantity of toxic substances in the blood borne disorders. However, this therapy is not generally recommended to the patients. This is because; it involves a certain amount of risk factors in the whole cleansing and detoxification processes.

Janu Basti is one of the upaakarma (sub-type) of Panchakarma. The word janu refers to knees and Basti stands for container or retaining something inside mainly the medicated oil. This procedure is done in order to strengthen the knee architecture i.e muscles, joints and improvise the functions of knee joint thereby preventing it from further degenerative changes.
Kati basti is a medicinal oil treatment for relieving tensions of the lower back.The patient lays down on their stomach, a ring is fixed on their back with a paste made of a special flour and water. The therapist pours very warm oil inside the circle, this sesame-based oil relieve all tensions and will penetrate deep into Ashti dhaathu (the bone tissues). The therapist must keep the oil very warm for 30 mn after which the patient receives a short massage with the same oil. A complete massage followed by a steam bath is highly recommended.
The phrase Chakra Basti is from Sanskrit. The word Chakra means wheel or disk and Basti stands for a Container or retaining something inside. Chakra basti, also called naabhi basti (navel basti), is applied to the umbilical region. Naabhi the umbilicus is considered as marma in Ayurveda. Marma (vital area) is an anatomical area where arteries, tendons, flesh, veins, bones and joints meet to form the location of life. Anatomical areas where structures pulsate and where the pain exist on pressing can be named as marma. Sage Sushrutha numbered them as 107. Naabhi marma is the vital center where 72,000 naadis (the subtle energy pathways) converge.
